ARCS (Augmented Reality Circuit Sniffer) is a reactive Augmented Reality sound device exploring the invisible electromagnetic fields that are emitted by the mass of electronic devices that surround us. The work invites participants to scan a range of devices using a smartphone app and custom handheld sensor that both visualises and sonifies these emanating electromagnetic waves in a real-time AR experience. Whilst often playful and explorative, the work simultaneously seeks to highlight our exposure to these invisible waves.
Through the hybridisation of lo-fi analogue sensors and digital technologies, we are aiming to disrupt the often polished experience of augmented reality applications using a DIY ethic and hardware hacking methodology.
